Hello and welcome to my website!

I'm Sophie, a freelance photographer based in Birmingham and Oxford, United Kingdom. I mostly shoot portrait photography, and cater to a wide range of styles and requirements. I've shot fashion shoots, headshots, weddings, newborn photoshoots, as well as theatre events, concerts and much more. Get in touch if you'd like me to be your photographer - I look forward to hearing from you.

My journey with photography started early in life. My parents, noticing my interest in their camera, started buying me disposable cameras when I was 4 - a wonderful treat for me, but not so much for my big brother - who would have known I'd still mercilessly exploit him as a model, almost 2 decades later! A few years later I upgraded to a small film camera, which I loved; the image quality was definitely more reliable - that is, if you remember to put a film canister in the machine before you start shooting. Imagine the anguish of my 8-year-old self, standing in front of another exquisite historical artefact on holiday, taking another picture for my numerous holiday photo collection... and suddenly realising why I hadn't yet 'run out of film'. A lesson learned the hard way!

I'm sure the photos I would have ended up with wouldn't have been perfect, and I could very easily have bought postcards of everything I had taken pictures of, but I loved having my own personalised memento of a moment of wonder. I'm certainly a hoarder of memories, and throughout my life, photography has been my diary. Gradually I started taking more and more photographs of family and friends, and capturing moments of joy, love and emotion. I strive to encapsulate the essence of my photographic subjects, and to show them as they are in the moment, and hope that the atmosphere and spirit of an event can be felt in my images.

Being able to share such moments with loved ones has been a great joy, and I'm increasingly grateful to the opportunities my camera has given me to meet new people and help capture events and special days in their lives.
